Mikko Takkunen, photography editor of The New York Times, released his first photography book, Hong Kong.

Captured images of the city during the coronavirus pandemic. At this time, Hong Kong is still recovering from the aftermath of anti-government protests in 2019. Inspired by the masters of New York photography such as Forel, Stetner and Wright, the Finnish photographer reveals the city's many unseen hidden perspectives and emotions in fresh and innovative ways.
His photographs are both documentary and subjective, creating a narrative of the city that is both fascinating and beautiful. Each photo is carefully curated, from vibrant colors to stunning hues, taking viewers on an alternative journey through this magnificent city.

We often view our city from the perspective of a local, but occasionally experiencing it from the perspective of an outsider can inspire new inspiration. Although this photo album gives people the impression that the city has lost its vitality, is silent, and has only a commercial flavor, which reminds people of the disconnection between urban development and people's lives, from another perspective, we can reflect on how to give Hong Kong the image of "the vibrant city of the East" again.

Mikko Tkkunen shows a different charm of Hong Kong, which is different from the general photo albums that directly promote the beauty of Hong Kong. For those of us who still live in Hong Kong, these photos may make us feel heavy and lost. However, as an artistic reference, these works are a good choice.

If you are easily disappointed, please keep hope for the future while watching these photos and believe that Hong Kong will have a better tomorrow.
